capture the mouse pointer

We are still discussing the roadmap for GIMP 2.6, but we have branched directly after the 2.4.1 release and the first new feature landed in trunk:

GIMP Screenshot plug-in

The Screenshot plug-in can now capture an image of the mouse pointer and it will put it on an extra layer so that you can easily adjust it later. This makes use of the X Fixes extension.

that’s great! it would be even nicer if it could also offer the option when capturing a single window (i know, users are never happy.. sorry..).

Sure, this is not yet finished. As a first step it was simpler to only allow it when taking a full screen shot. In the other modes of operation, the plug-in itself changes the mouse cursor.

If anyone wants to continue working on this, please volunteer.

PS: after seeing how much gimp 2.4 has improved my graphics editing experience compared to gimp 2.2 (much more than what i thought possible..), i can’t wait for 2.6.

really happy to hear that 2.6 already got started :-)
